High performance tools
To meet the highest quality standards of its customers, Silmax offers optimised tools for high-performance milling technologies.
The whole range of tools is constantly upgraded based on the latest technological innovations. Leading products in the line are the Evolution end mills, made of solid carbide and designed for roughing and semi-finishing steels, with asymmetrical geometry and specific face sharpening for ramp milling up to an angle of 24°.
The 4S superfinishing-treated cutting edge of all end mills in the line make them particularly suitable for machining under extreme conditions and capable of ensuring an increase in productivity of about 30% compared with a conventional tool.
An example in the range is the 4-flute end mill 158, with unequal flute spacing and reduced core, which is particularly well-performing for machining titanium.

Multi-material
These tools have been specially designed to machine, at very high parameters, a wide range of stainless steels, low and high alloy steels and cast irons.

Multi-application
The high-performance Silmax end mills are used in several machining operations, such as, for example, slot milling up to 1.5xD, roughing and finishing side milling and even in trochoidal machining and extreme-angle ramp milling strategies.

Silmax 4S treatment
For this type of tools, Silmax recommends its 4S Cutting-Edge Superfinishing as a treatment for surfaces and cutting geometries, which enhances the tool construction features, achieving:
- a more homogeneous cutting edge;
- higher wear-resistance and reduction of cutting stress;
- coating adhesion and resistance;
- 30% productivity increase.

PVD Coating
The coating used for these tools is Balinit® Alcrona Pro, a highly wear-resistant coating, offering excellent levels of hot hardness and thermal-shock stability. Alcrona Pro guarantees excellent results in dry machining and at high cutting speeds.
