Aluminum extrusion dies

As you know, we specialize in the production of tools for mechanical processing. Today, however, we’re talking about dies for aluminum extrusion. What’s the connection? Let’s start with the basics: what is a die and what is it used for?

A die is essential for any operation that involves the extrusion of a material. It allows for plastic deformation to create parts with a constant cross-section. Extrusion basically consists of forcing a pasty material through a die that replicates the external shape of the part you want to create, using compression.

Obviously, it’s easy to imagine how each profile requires a very specific die. This is why we at Silmax are committed to producing and perfecting every type of tool necessary to make them. Let’s take a look at our offerings.

Tools for Making Mandrels

  • 144/144 L: A cylindrical tool with 4 cutting edges and a relieved collar at various lengths. It’s suitable for machining the feeds and, thanks to its special geometry, it’s also perfect for working on very deep central feeds, reducing vibrations caused by radii equal to the tool’s radius.
  • 141/142/155: Milling cutters suitable for finishing the profile after heat treatment. They guarantee long durability and perpendicularity, and are also suitable for machining smaller profiles.
  • 149/159A/726: These are mainly suitable for machining the channels under the core in 5-axis copying, both continuous and indexed. This ensures very tight machining tolerances for maximum efficiency and tool life.

Tools for Making Dies

  • Tapered tools: These are new-generation tools that guarantee top-level performance that remains consistent over time, even for difficult and long-lasting jobs.
  • 113EV: A cylindrical tool with 4 cutting edges suitable for machining welding chambers and pre-zones, both with full and stepped passes. It’s a single tool that can be used both before and after heat treatment.
