Challenge
A customer in the general mechanical engineering sector involved Silmax to improve drilling quality and process stability on several POM parts. The main issues were well known:
- Very thick burrs, which required manual deburring
- Stringing on the entry and exit edges of the hole
- Abrasive material behavior, impacting tool life
- Further deterioration in quality when cross-holes are present
Solution
A careful tool selection, identifying the new PHM drill line as the most suitable solution, combined with a dedicated cutting parameter optimization to stabilize the process and improve hole quality.
Results
The results achieved showed a clear improvement in the process:
